Iodine water tablets?, sorry we can't recommend them. Not the best thing for
your kidneys and liver. After a long conversation with the manufacture about shelf life,
we were surprised to find that a recommended shelf life
is two years and even less if bottle has been opened.
This is not printed on the container as it is not regulated by the FDA.
Storing and treating water is often confusing at best.
WE CHOOSE TO ROTATE OUR WATER YEARLY.
POTABLE WATER FROM TESTED SOURCE OR MUNICIPAL SUPPLY
SHOULD BE ROTATED EVERY 6 MONTHS OR 1 YEAR AT MOST!
Household liquid clear bleach can be used as a basic "treatment"
for most (not all ) microbes. Always allow bleach treatment to stand
30 minutes at approximately room temperatures to be effective.
IF YOU MUST
We recommend you treat to the high end, ie. 16 drops per gallon.
Check for slight bleach odor, if non present repeat dosage.
BETTER
Boiling water is probably the safest and more effective.
Bring to hard boil for 3 - 5 minutes let stand.
Better taste can be achieved by pouring water between
two containers to add slight amount of oxygen.
BEST
DISTILLATION, boiling water and collecting vapor for consumption.
This does not mean bottled distilled water.
Filters may also be an excellent choice and is a whole story in itself.
It would take pages to explain the in and outs of proper water storage.
